Our goal at Mozo is to help you make smart financial decisions and our award-winning comparison tools and services are provided free of charge. As a marketplace business, we do earn money from advertising and this page features products with Go To Site links and/or other paid links where the provider pays us a fee if you go to their site from ours, or you take out a product with them. You do not pay any extra for using our service.

We are proud of the tools and information we provide and unlike some other comparison sites, we also include the option to search all the products in our database, regardless of whether we have a commercial relationship with the providers of those products or not.

‘Sponsored’, ‘Hot deal’ and ‘Featured Product’ labels denote products where the provider has paid to advertise more prominently.

‘Mozo sort order’ refers to the initial sort order and is not intended in any way to imply that particular products are better than others. You can easily change the sort order of the products displayed on the page.

What’s covered?

The first thing on your mind is probably what kind of protection you’ll get with Progressive Direct. Here are some of the main things you can expect to have cover for:

  • A new car if yours is written off (within 1 year of original rego)
  • Personal property
  • Damage to your windscreen – if it’s just a repair, you’ll pay no excess
  • Emergency repairs without assessment (up to a certain amount)
  • Towing costs
  • Travel expenses and a night of accommodation in an emergency
  • The cost of a hire car when yours is stolen (cover for a hire car after an accident is an optional extra)
  • Rental car liability
  • Cover for a trailer, replacement keys, and baby seats
  • Cover for vet fees or accidental death of a pet

What’s not?

In a perfect world, your car insurance policy would cover every little thing you could think of. But unfortunately, there are a few exclusions to your Progressive Direct policy, including:

  • Roadside assistance
  • Cover for caravans
  • Damage to commercial signage
  • General wear and tear from age and use

Keep in mind that any modifications aren’t covered under your policy unless you have it in writing. Adding cover for these extras will likely raise your premium as well.

How much does Progressive Direct car insurance cost?

Insurance premiums can take a real toll on your budget’s bottom line if you don’t take the time to compare your options and find a policy that will give you the right level of cover for a decent price.

Here are the main factors that will affect the cost of your Progressive Direct insurance:

Premium

The premium is basically the price tag applied to an insurance policy. It’s based on how likely the insurance provider thinks it is that you will make a claim – the more likely it is, the higher your premium will generally be.

When Progressive Direct determines your premium, it might be based on factors including:

  • What kind of car is it?
  • Who drives the car?
  • Where is it kept when not in use?

Discounts

Luckily, there are a range of discounts on offer from Progressive Direct to help keep your insurance costs low. These include your no claims discount – which is decided on a state-by-state basis – as well as a multi-car discount for if you take out more than one car insurance policy.

Other discounts that might apply to you include:

  • Homeowners discount
  • Graduate discount
  • Early shopper discount
  • Paid in full discount

Excess

Another expense to consider is the excess. When you make a claim, you’ll have to pay this before your insurance will kick in.

At Progressive Direct, you can choose a low or high excess, but remember that the lower your excess, the higher your premium will be.

You should also keep in mind that there are extra excesses applied to young drivers, or drivers who haven’t held a licence for very long.

How do I pay my premium?

With Progressive Direct, you can pay your premium all at once in a lump sum, or you can choose to pay in monthly installments. Just keep in mind, if you choose to take advantage of this flexible option, it will cost more.

You can pay your Progressive Direct premium securely online – and the best part about that is that you’ll get your certificate of insurance straight away, and print it if you want to.

How is Progressive Direct rated by customers?

Enough of us talking! We’ve rounded up the opinions of regular people who took out a car insurance policy with Progressive Direct so you can hear what they think. Check out how they rate their experience in terms of things like trust, policy coverage and price in our customer review section.

Making a claim

If you have an accident and need to make a claim on your Progressive Direct car insurance, then you can do it online through your Progressive Direct account, or by calling the claims service.

One handy thing to know is that as long as you use Progressive Direct’s preferred repairers you won’t have to run around getting quotes on repairs – they’ll handle all that for you.

When you make a claim, remember to have some important details handy, including:

  • Your policy number.
  • Your personal contact details.
  • The details of anyone involved in the incident, including name, phone number, address, registration details, and insurance details if known.
  • Any official documents related to the incident (e.g. medical or police reports).

Progressive Direct Comprehensive Insurance Making things difficult and drag them out.

Progressive called the tow truck driver to ask questions of the night… not the police?? Every time I lodge a form via email they don’t read it. You have to call after and get actual acknowledgement of the email or it will just sit unread. When asked they just say we are a call centre first (they why email?).
