Specialist insurer Beazley has appointed Melissa Carmichael (pictured) as US cyber head with immediate effect.

Making the switch from Aon where she served as managing director and specialty & middle market leader, Carmichael brings more than 25 years of industry experience to Beazley.

Of those two and a half decades, over 16 years were spent at Marsh where she was managing director and financial & professional liability practice leader in New York.

“I’m excited to be joining such an impressive team at Beazley,” Carmichael commented. “In an ever-shifting cyber market, Beazley has ensured that its clients are ahead of the risk, prepared and not fearful of any threats that may lie ahead for their business.

“I greatly look forward to working with the team and partnering with our brokers to further build on this success and grow our market-leading position.”

Based in New York, the new head of US cyber will report to global cyber risks head Paul Bantick.

“In an era of accelerating cyber threats, it’s crucial that we have in place leaders of Melissa’s caliber and expertise, working alongside an experienced team to ensure that our clients have elevated cyber resilience,” Bantick stated.

“Not only is her appointment a testament to our ability to attract market-leading talent, but it also denotes our commitment to bolstering our Full Spectrum Cyber global proposition and capitalizing on the opportunities in the US cyber space.”

In the US, Beazley’s underwriters focus on writing a range of specialist insurance products. In the admitted market, coverage is provided by Beazley Insurance Company, an A-rated carrier licensed in all 50 states, and its subsidiary Beazley America Insurance Company.

In the surplus lines market, coverage is provided by Beazley Excess and Surplus Insurance and the Beazley syndicates at Lloyd’s.
